How to Use 2chanc3s

2chanc3s is a location-based platform for posting and discovering messages in your area. This guide covers the main features.

Setting Your Location

Before browsing or searching, you need to set a location. There are two ways:

Option 1: GPS (Use My Location)

Click the "Use My Location" button to use your device's GPS.

Tip: GPS is more accurate outdoors. If you're inside, you might get better results using an address.

Option 2: Enter an Address

Type an address, city, or landmark in the address field and click "Go".

Adjusting the Radius

Use the "k" slider to control how far you want to see:

k valueApproximate area
1-3Immediate neighborhood
4-7District / several miles
8-15Metro area / city-wide

Searching Posts

The search field supports several special tokens to filter posts:

TokenExampleWhat it does
#hashtag#foodFind posts with this hashtag
@username@jonFind posts mentioning this user
📍location📍BostonSearch in a specific location
plain textcoffeeSearch post content

Hashtag Search

Prefix with # to search by hashtag:

#food - Find all posts tagged with #food
#outdoors #hiking - Find posts with both hashtags

Hashtags are case-insensitive: #Food and #food find the same posts.

Mention Search

Prefix with @ to find posts mentioning a user:

@jon - Find posts that mention @jon

Mentions are case-sensitive: @Jon and @jon are different.

Location Search

Use 📍 followed by a place name to search a specific area:

📍Cincinnati - Search posts near Cincinnati
📍"Findlay Market" - Use quotes for multi-word places
#food 📍NYC - Food posts in New York City
Tip: The 📍 location in your search overrides your current location setting. This lets you explore other areas without changing your main location.

Combined Searches

Combine multiple tokens for precise results:

#coffee 📍Boston - Coffee posts in Boston
@alice #hiking - Posts mentioning @alice with #hiking
📍"Central Park" dogs - Posts near Central Park containing "dogs"

Text Search

Any words without #, @, or 📍 are treated as content search:

good morning - Find posts containing "good morning"

Browsing the Feed

After setting a location, posts from nearby will load automatically. The feed shows:
